Goal To reduce the number of new HIV infections.
Objectives
  1. Demonstrate the effectiveness of incorporating HIV/AIDS prevention curricula into ongoing substance abuse prevention programs.
  2. Demonstrate the differential effectiveness of incorporating HIV/AIDS prevention curricula into ongoing substance prevention programs.
Action Steps
  1. Supplementation of high risk youth grants for alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) prevention for the purpose of including HIV/AIDS prevention strategies in their present activities.
  2. Develop program to empower youth with skills, knowledge, and beliefs for HIV prevention.
  3. Demonstrate effective strategies to prevent ATOD use and abuse among high risk youth.
  4. Include developmentally and culturally appropriate HIV/AIDS education and prevention approaches.

This initiative includes various approaches, including how best to: educate service providers, address family issues, interrupt HIV transmission, and maximize client retention in substance abuse treatment.
