PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES PAULETTE  H. HOLAHAN TO THE NATIONAL COMMISSION ON
                     LIBRARIES AND INFORMATION SCIENCE

     The President today announced his intent to nominate Paulette H.
Holahan to serve as a member of the National Commission on Libraries and
Information Science (NCLIS).

      Ms. Paulette H. Holahan, of New Orleans, Louisiana, was the Deputy
Judicial Administrator of the Louisiana Supreme Court, where she was the
public information officer for twenty-three years.  She has been an active
volunteer in the library world for over forty years.  She has been Chairman
of the Board of Directors of the New Orleans Public Library, the Louisiana
State Library Board of Commissioners, the American Library Trustee
Association, and the Library Development Committee of Louisiana.  Ms.
Holahan has received many awards for her work with libraries, including the
Silver Award of the National Commission on Libraries and Information
Science and an award from the American Library Association to the
Outstanding Library Trustee in the United States.

     The U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science is a
permanent, independent agency of the federal government composed of
fourteen members, serving five-year terms, and two ex officio members.
NCLIS is charged by law (P.L. 91-345) to advise the President and Congress
on national and international library and information services policies and
plans.
