             PRESIDENT CLINTON NOMINATES  STEVEN E. ACHELPOHL
                           TO THE FEDERAL BENCH

     The President today nominated Steven E. Achelpohl to the U.S. District
Court for the District of Nebraska.

     Steven E. Achelpohl, of Omaha, Nebraska, has been a sole practitioner
since 1994.  Prior to opening his own practice, Achelpohl was a partner at
the law firms of Smith, Peterson (1992-1993), Schumacher & Gilroy
(1983-1987), and Schumacher & Achelpohl (1987-1992); and an associate and
then partner at the law firms of McGrath, North, Mullin & Krazt, P.C.
(1977-1978) and Dwyer, O?Leary and Martin, P.C. (1980-1983).  He also
served as an instructor at both the University of Nebraska at Omaha and
Creighton University School of Law.  Achelpohl began his legal career as a
law clerk for the Honorable Donald R. Ross of the United States Court of
Appeals for the Eighth Circuit (1975-1977).  Achelpohl received his B.A.
degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1972 and his J.D.
degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, College of Law in 1975.
