PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES MICHAEL GOLDWATER, HANS MARK AND LYNDA SCRIBANTE TO
THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE BARRY GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIP AND EXCELLENCE IN
                           EDUCATION FOUNDATION

     The President announced today his intent to nominate Michael Prescott
Goldwater, Hans Mark and Lynda Hare Scribante to the Board of Trustees of
the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.

     Mr. Michael Prescott Goldwater, of Scottsdale, Arizona, is the
Registrar of Contractors for the State of Arizona.  Previously he had been
involved with construction and real estate development in Arizona and
California.  Mr. Goldwater has served on the Americans with Disabilities
Technical Advisory Council of Arizona and the Strategic Planning Committee
of the Arizona Economic Council.  Currently he is a Trustee of Barrow
Neurological Foundation and is on the Construction Industry Advisory
Council, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Arizona State
University.  Mr. Goldwater received a B.S. in Business and Public
Administration from the University of Arizona.

     Dr. Hans Mark, of Austin, Texas, is currently serving as Director of
Defense Research & Engineering at the Department of Defense.  Immediately
prior to joining the Department of Defense, he was a Professor of Aerospace
Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at The University of Texas at Austin
from 1988 to 1998.  From 1984 to 1992, Dr. Mark was Chancellor of The
University of Texas System.  Prior to joining the University of Texas
System, Dr. Mark served as Deputy Administrator of NASA from 1981 to 1984,
and was Secretary of the Air Force from 1979 to 1981.  He is the author or
co-author of more than 180 scholarly articles and numerous books including
Experiments in Modern Physics, The Management of Research Institutions,
Power and Security, The Space-Station: A Personal Journey and Adventures in
Celestial Mechanics.  Dr. Mark received an A.B. degree in physics from the
University of California in Berkeley and a Ph.D. in physics from the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

     Ms. Lynda Hare Scribante, of Aspen, Colorado, has an extensive history
in civic involvement, including several presidential appointments.  She
served for eight years on the United States Air Force Academy Board of
Visitors and on the Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Commission during the
1986 Centennial Celebration in New York.  She also served on the
President?s Commission on Medical and Biomedical Ethics, and authored the
?Living Will?, which has been adopted by all 50 states.  Ms. Scribante and
Ambassador Holly Coors were two of the co-founders of Women of Our
Hemisphere, an organization devoted to developing and sharing ideas between
women in growing new businesses throughout Central and South America.  Ms.
Scribante graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S.
degree in Language and Political Science.
     The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation
is responsible for supervising and directing a scholarship program aimed at
fostering and encouraging excellence in the sciences, mathematics and
engineering.
