THE WHITE HOUSE OFFICE OF THE PRESS SECRETARY (Louisville, Kentucky) ___________________________________________________________________________ _____For Immediate Release October 31, 2000 PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES GEORGE MUNOZ AS A MEMBER OF THE INTER-AMERICAN FOUNDATION The President today announced his intent to nominate George Mu?oz as a Member of the Inter-American Foundation. Mr. George Mu?oz, of Chicago, Illinois, serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), an independent U.S. government agency, which works to facilitate the investment of private capital from the United States to over 140 developing countries and emerging markets. Prior to taking the position at OPIC, he was the Chief Financial Officer of the U.S. Treasury Department from 1993 to 1997. Mr. Mu?oz was a partner in the law firm of Mayer, Brown and Platt, and was a principle with the former Senator Adlai Stevenson in an investment-banking firm focused on international transactions. He also headed his own law firm concentrating in the areas of corporate and international business. Mr. Mu?oz received a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. He also received a J.D. from Harvard Law School, a M.P.P. from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a Master of Law in Taxation from DePaul University. The Inter-American Foundation (IAF) is an independent agency established in 1969 to cooperate with private, regional, and international organizations in order to strengthen the bonds of friendship and understanding among the people of Latin America and the Caribbean. The IAF seeks to support self-help efforts, stimulate and assist wider participation of the poor in the development process, encourage the establishment and growth of democratic institutions in both development processes, and promote the establishment and growth of democratic institutions both private and governmental. 30-30-30
