PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES REGINALD EARL JONES AS A COMMISSIONER OF THE EQUAL
                     EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION

     The President today announced his intent to nominate Reginald Earl
Jones to serve as a Commissioner of the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission (EEOC).

     Mr. Reginald Earl Jones, of Wheaton, Maryland, has served as a
Commissioner of the EEOC since 1996 and was an American Delegate to the
Second World Conference on Remedies to Racial and Ethnic Economic
Inequality in 1998.  Previously, he served as Senior Legislative Counsel
from 1993 to 1996 and Minority Counsel and Staff Director from 1989 to 1993
to Senator James M. Jeffords (R-VT).

     Mr. Jones received his B.A. degree from Yale University and his J.D.
and M.B.A. degrees from New York University.

     The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for
enforcing the Equal Pay Act of 1963, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of
1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 as amended (ADEA),
the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the Civil Rights Act of
1991, and other federal laws that prohibit employment discrimination.  The
EEOC carries out its work at headquarters and in numerous field offices
throughout the United States.
