PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES DIANE PEAVEY TO THE PRESIDENT?S ADVISORY COMMITTEE
     ON THE ARTS OF THE JOHN F. KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

     The President announced today his intent to appoint Diane Josephy
Peavey to be a member of the President?s Advisory Committee on the Arts of
the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

    Ms. Diane Josephy Peavey, of Ketchum, Idaho, is the coordinator of the
annual historic and cultural festival called the Trailing of the Sheep.
She lives on a sheep and cattle ranch and writes about the western
landscapes.  Ms. Peavey?s radio essays are aired weekly on Idaho Public
Radio. Her works also appear in numerous anthologies and literary
publications.  Until recently, Ms. Peavey was Literature Director for the
Idaho Commission on the Arts.   She is also a member of the Board of The
Nature Conservancy of Idaho and is a member of the Sun Valley Center for
the Arts.  Ms. Peavey is a former Washingtonian, and worked for the U.S.
Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs (1978-79) and was Special
Assistant to the Secretary for Land and Water at the U.S. Department of
Interior (1979-81).

    Ms. Peavey received a B.A. in English from Scripps College and did
graduate study in English and Journalism at George Washington University.

     The President?s Advisory Committee on the Arts of the John F. Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts advises and consults with the Board of
Trustees for the Center, and makes recommendations to the Board regarding
existing and prospective cultural activities to be featured at the center.
In addition, the members of the Committee assist in the Center?s
fundraising efforts and act as liaisons to performance groups and
performing arts centers throughout the nation.
