 PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES PEGGY GOLDWATER CLAY TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
  THE BARRY GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIP AND EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION FOUNDATION

     The President announced today his intent to nominate Peggy Goldwater
Clay to the Board of Trustees of the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and
Excellence in Education Foundation.

     Ms. Peggy Goldwater Clay, of Newport Beach, California, is chair of
Goldwater?s Food of Arizona, a food company that produces a nationally
distributed line of southwestern-style food.  She also is heavily involved
in civic and community affairs, including service on the boards of the
Children?s Bureau of Southern California; the Brain Imaging Center at
University of California, Irvine; the Air Force Academy Foundation; and
KOCE, Orange County?s public television station.

     Ms. Goldwater Clay was educated at the Judson School in Scottsdale,
Arizona, and Mt. Vernon College in Washington, D.C.

     The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation
is responsible for supervising and directing a scholarship program aimed at
fostering and encouraging excellence in the sciences, mathematics and
engineering.
