THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary _______________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release October 12, 2000 PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES EDWARD CORREIA AS A MEMBER OF NATIONAL COUNCIL ON DISABILITY The President today announced his intent to nominate Edward Correia as a member of the National Council on Disability. Mr. Edward Correia, of Bethesda, Maryland, is currently Of Counsel to the Latham and Watkins law firm in Washington, D.C. Previously, he was Special Counsel to the President for Civil Rights at the White House. Mr. Correia was also a Scholar in Residence at the Federal Trade Commission and a Professor of Law at Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, where he was selected as the law school's first Urban Law and Public Policy Distinguished Professor. He has also served as a Special Assistant to the Attorney General and as Chief Counsel of the Senate Antitrust Subcommittee. Mr. Correia received a B.A. degree from the University of Oklahoma, a M.P.P. degree from Harvard University, and a J.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma. The National Council on Disability is responsible for promoting the integration, independence and productivity of individuals with disabilities in the community, schools, workplace and all other aspects of American life. In the fulfillment of this mission, the Council evaluates the effectiveness of federal government programs and statutes concerning individuals with disabilities. 30-30-30
