THE WHITE HOUSE Office of The Press Secretary (Louisville, Kentucky) ________________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release October 31, 2000 PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES CAROLYNN LINDEMAN TO THE PRESIDENT?S ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON THE ARTS OF THE JOHN F. KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS The President announced today his intention to appoint Carolynn Lindeman to the President?s Advisory Committee on the Arts of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Dr. Carolynn A. Lindeman, of Greenbrae, California, is Professor of Music at San Francisco State University and past president of MENC: The National Association for Music Education National Conference. Dr. Lindeman serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Music Education and on the National Committee of Examiners in Music for Educational Testing Service and is a member of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Music Advisory Panel. She is a widely published author of over 50 articles on music education, and her books include The Musical Classroom: Backgrounds, Models and Skills for Elementary Teaching, and PianoLab: An Introduction to Class Piano. Active as a speaker, she has addressed educators in almost every state and in Canada, Europe, Southeast Asia, Mexico, South Africa, and Israel. Dr. Lindeman studied at the Mozarteum Academy in Austria and received a B.M. from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, an M.A. in Music from San Francisco State University, and a D.M.A. from Stanford University. The President?s Advisory Committee on the Arts of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts advises and consults with the Board of Trustees for the Center and makes recommendations to the Board regarding existing and prospective cultural activities to be featured at the center. In addition, the members of the Committee assist in the Center?s fundraising efforts and act as liaisons to performance groups and performing arts centers throughout the nation. 30-30-30
