PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES TROY HAMILTON CRIBB AS ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR
IMPORT ADMINISTRATION, INTERNATIONAL TRADE ADMINISTRATION AT THE DEPARTMENT
OF COMMERCE
President Clinton yesterday nominated Troy Hamilton Cribb as Assistant
Secretary for Import Administration, International Trade Administration at
the Department of Commerce.
Ms. Troy Hamilton Cribb, of Washington, D.C., has served as Acting
Assistant Secretary for Import Administration since April. From December
1995 to April 2000, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Textiles,
Apparel, and Consumer Goods Industries in the International Trade
Administration. In this position, Ms. Cribb oversaw programs and
strategies to improve the domestic and international competitiveness of the
U.S. fiber, textile, and apparel industries, as well as industries which
manufacture a wide range of consumer products. Ms. Cribb also served as
Chairwoman of the inter-agency Committee for the Implementation of Textile
Agreements (CITA), which implements and enforces all U.S. textile trade
agreements. Prior to joining the Department of Commerce, Ms. Cribb served
as professional staff and minority counsel to the Senate Committee on
Commerce, Science, and Transportation, specializing in international trade
issues. She worked as a legislative assistant to Senator Ernest F.
Hollings from 1988 to 1993.
Ms. Cribb received a B.S. from Northwestern University, and a J.D.
from Georgetown University Law Center.
The Assistant Secretary for Import Administration is responsible for
administering the U.S. anti-dumping and countervailing duty statutes (Title
VII of the Tariff Act of 1930, as amended) which provide a remedy to
domestic industries injured by unfairly traded imports. The Assistant
Secretary also oversees Departmental activities relating to foreign trade
zones and other special import programs and participates in negotiations to
promote fair trade in specific industrial sectors. The Assistant Secretary
for Import Administration reports to the Under Secretary for International
Trade.
