PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES GUY R. McMINDS AS COMMISSIONER OF THE NORTH PACIFIC
                        ANADROMOUS FISH COMMISSION

President Clinton today announced his intent to appoint Guy R. McMinds

Mr. Guy R. McMinds, of Taholah, Washington, is a member of the
Quinault Indian Nation. He is an advisor to the Tribal President and a
policy advisor for natural resources for the Quinault Nation. From 1974 to
1984, he served as Director of the Quinault Department of Natural
Resources. In 1979, he was appointed by the Secretary of Commerce as the
Commissioner of the Pacific Fisheries Management Council, where he served
and advised the Secretary on the management of all fisheries in the
Fisheries Conservation and Management Zone. Mr. McMinds was a founding
member of the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission, Past Commissioner of
the Pacific Salmon Commission, and a member of the Marine Fisheries

Mr. McMinds received a B.S. degree from the University of Washington.

The North Pacific Anadromous Fish Commission is an international body
composed of representatives from the United States, Canada, Japan and the
Russian Federation. The Commission serves as a forum for promoting the
conservation of anadromous stocks and related species, marine mammals and
sea birds in the high seas areas of the North Pacific Ocean. The term
'anadromous' refers to fish that swim upstream to spawn and includes many
species of salmon.
