THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary ________________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release December 29, 2000 STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY The President and Mrs. Clinton, residents of Chappaqua, New York, entered into a contract today for the purchase of a house in the Observatory area of Washington, D.C., for Mrs. Clinton?s use while the Senate is in session. The five-bedroom house, which includes a study and an office, was built in 1951; it has approximately 5,500 square feet and sits on 1/3 acre. The President and Mrs. Clinton are purchasing the house for $2,850,000 and have secured a loan commitment for $1,995,000 from their bank, Citibank. The Clintons said: ?We appreciate all the hard work of everyone who made our search for a place in Washington, D.C., productive and enjoyable.
