    PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES EDWIN A. LEVINE AS ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR
                       FOR ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION
   AND CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY

     President Clinton today announced his intent to nominate Edwin A.
Levine as Assistant Administrator for Environmental Information and Chief
Information Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

     Mr. Edwin A. Levine, of Tallahassee, Florida, has served as Deputy
Assistant Administrator of the Office of Environmental Information at EPA
since April 2000.  Prior to his duties with EPA, Mr. Levine served in a
series of information technology-related positions in the executive and
legislative branches of several state governments, as well as in the
private sector.  From 1992 to 1993, Mr. Levine was the Regional Director
for the Electronic Data Systems(EDS) Corporation, where he was responsible
for the coordination, development, and communication of EDS?s positions on
legislative policy in seven western states.  Mr. Levine also was Senior
Policy Coordinator in the Office of Financial Management in the State of
Washington. In this capacity, Mr. Levine was responsible for the
development of information technology policy, strategic planning, and
budgeting processes used by the executive branch agencies. Mr. Levine
served as Vice-Chair for the National Conference of State Legislatures
Committee on Access to Information.  In addition, Mr. Levine received the
Charles McCarthy Award for Leadership in Information Services.

     Mr. Levine received his B.S. and M.S. in Political Science from
Florida State University.

     The Assistant Administrator for Environmental Information and Chief
Information Officer of the EPA is directly responsible for the Office of
Environmental Information, which provides supervision and direction in the
implementation of EPA's information programs. The purpose of this position
is to develop information and data planning to support the business needs
of the EPA and to manage the strategic information planning and investment
processes of the EPA.
