PIZZORNO, JR. TO THE WHITE HOUSE COMMISSION ON COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE POLICY President Clinton today announced his intent to appoint Joseph E. Pizzorno, Jr. to the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy. Joseph E. Pizzorno, Jr., N.D., of Seattle is one of the world?s leading authorities on science-based natural medicine. A physician, educator, researcher, and expert spokesperson, Dr. Pizzorno is co-founder and founding president of Bastyr University, the first fully accreditated, multidisciplinary university of natural medicine in the United States. Dr. Pizzorno is the author of Total Wellness and co-author of the Textbook of Natural Medicine and the Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine. In 1996, he was appointed to the Seattle/King County Board of Health, the first natural medicine practitioner in the country to receive such appointment. In 1999, Dr. Pizzorno was elected Chair of the American Public Health Association Special Primary Interest Group on Complementary and Alternative Medicine. He has been licensed as a naturopathic physician in Washington State since 1975. In June 2000, Dr. Pizzorno retired as President of Bastyr University. He since has been granted the title of President Emeritus, and serves as the Senior Advisor to the President of Bastyr University. In September 2000, the Cancer Treatment Centers of America recognized Dr. Pizzorno as Humanitarian of the Year. He currently travels worldwide, lecturing and promoting science-based natural medicine and integrative healthcare. He also co-founded a company to bring natural medicine concepts to corporate health promotion programs. The White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine shall provide a report, through the Secretary of Health and Human Services, to the President on legislative and administrative recommendations for assuring that public policy maximizes the benefits to Americans of complementary and alternative medicine. 30-30-30
