Special Assistant to
the President and Senior Director


The office advises and assists the President, the National Security Advisor, and the Director of the National Economic Council on all aspects of U.S. foreign policy as it relates to U.S. international economic issues.

Among the issues the office provides advice and assistance to the President on are: the World Trade Organization (WTO) including dispute settlement issues; the G-7/8 Summits; Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and other international economic organizations and conferences; multilateral lending issues, including debt relief, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and regional development banks; international economic regimes and treaties; trade and economic legislation; international negotiations; resolution of trade disputes; regional trade initiatives worldwide; and bilateral trade, economic assistance, and investment issues.
