A Congressional Resolution to Celebrate One America

A Congressional Resolution to Celebrate One America

On October 14, 1999 the WHOPIFOA joined a bipartisan coalition of U.S. Representatives and ethnic leaders to celebrate passage of the "Celebrate One America" resolution. Passed by unanimous consent in the House and Senate, the resolution calls upon Americans of all backgrounds to "reach out across our differences in ethnicity, race and religion to respect each other and to celebrate in friendship and unity, one America." Representatives Charles M. Rangel and Benjamin Gilman co-sponsored the resolution. The National Italian American Foundation coordinated a coalition of a dozen organizations representing a broad spectrum of our nation's diversity. These organizations have pledged to continue working together and with the PIFOA on programs which will advance the President's vision of One America.
