Background | Program Operations | Outcomes |
In 1995, the Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Multi-Cultural Center was created by a diverse committee composed of community leaders, educators and administrators of Brevard Community College. The center commemorates the work of the Moores, African American activists who were assassinated in Mims, Florida in 1951. The Moore Multi-Cultural Center serves to improve race relations and human relations in Brevard County and the state of Florida.
The center sponsors public forums that focus on the value of racial and cultural diversity. For example, the center organized a workshop called "Cultural Diversity, Ethnocentrism and Work." There was also a forum for local ministers to discuss critical social issues effecting their communities. In the future, the center hopes to launch the Model Communities for Racial Harmony Program that will recognize neighborhoods in America that manage programs or activities that improve race relations.
Outcomes and Significant Accomplishments
The center operates an interactive on-line database on its Website: www.Brevard.cc.fl.us/multicultural. The center's Website provides an international forum or idea exchange and advertisement of multi-cultural issues, services, and practitioners.
