Discovery of structure of DNA
"Certainly the largest impact on my field was the discovery of the structure of DNA, the unfolding of the amino acid code and the understanding of the role of genetics in the pathogenesis and treatment of disease. Two diseases led the way. They were sickle cell disease and thalassemia. I am proud to have made a contribution to them."
