You are invited to join a national "Moment of
Remembrance" effort to put the "Memorial" back into Memorial Day. In paying
our debt to remember those who died for our freedoms, we ask you to consider
the following:
Radio and TV Suggestions:
- Broadcast the 60-second spot "Moment of Remembrance"
on your station as close as possible to 3 p.m. on Memorial Day. (You may download the
"National Moment of Remembrance" 60-second spot in audio or video format
from the www.whitehouse.gov/remembrance website, or if you wish, you may create
your own spot.)
- Air a 10-second promotional spot multiple times during the
days proceeding and on Memorial Day itself. (Suggested 10 second spot: "On
Memorial Day, this station will broadcast a "National Moment of
Remembrance" at 3 p.m. to honor our Nation's fallen heroes and to help
put "Memorial" back in Memorial Day.")
- Remind citizens at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, wherever they
may be, to pause with other Americans throughout the Nation. Suggest to those
who may be traveling in vehicles to turn on their headlights.
- Radio stations can have listeners call in and mention where
they will be observing the "National Moment of Remembrance" and who they
will be remembering.
- Have listeners send in a card with a name of their loved
one who has died in service to our country. From May 22 to May 29 at 3 p.m.,
ten names can be selected randomly each day from listeners' cards to be
read in the Roll Call of Remembrance.
"Taps"
(.au
format) (24 seconds long) can then be played. Television stations
may have a crawl of names at the end of the newscast.
Here is a guide to assist you in preparing for the
"National Moment of Remembrance."
