PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES TIMOTHY EARL JONES AS A MEMBER OF THE UNITED STATES
                             PAROLE COMMISSION

     President Clinton today announced the recess appointment of Timothy
Earl Jones to serve as a member of the United States Parole Commission.
Mr. Jones was nominated to the Senate on November 19, 1999.

     Mr. Timothy Jones, of Lithonia, Georgia, served under former Governor
Zell Miller as the Director of the Governor?s Office of Highway Safety
since 1997.  From 1974-1997, he served with the Georgia Board of Pardons
and Paroles, most recently as a board member from 1990-1997.  From
1988-1990, Mr. Jones served as the Director of Field Operations and as the
Assistant Director from 1982-1988.  In addition, he has served as the
Director of Parole Decision Guidelines, as a hearing examiner, and as a
parole supervisor.  Mr. Jones received a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and
the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry during his service in the Army.

     Mr. Jones received his B.A. and M.A. from Georgia State University.

     The United States Parole Commission, an independent agency within the
Department of Justice, has the power to grant, deny and revoke parole for
eligible Federal offenders.  It also directs probation officers and other
public and private agencies to perform such duties as the Commission deems
necessary for maintaining proper supervision of, and assistance to
parolees.
