Since 1992, Tipper and Al Gore have moderated an annual family policy conference in Nashville, Tennessee. These "Family Re-Union" conferences have provided the Vice President and others who make policy at the federal, state, and local level an opportunity to hear and learn from the experience of families, and those who work with them.

This year's Conference addresses the issue of families and health. Among the topics to be discussed are the training of health care professionals, the impact of managed care and public health policy, support needed for whole families of chronically ill dependents, and the importance of treating family members as full partners in health care.

Discussion will also address the groups who must become involved in any systemic change, including health care professionals, families, purchasers of managed care, health care executives, community-based organizations, business leaders, medical educators, and others.
