White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific
Islanders
For the first time in the history of our nation
the President has issued an Executive Order to improve the lives of Asian
Americans and Pacific Islanders. Executive Order 13125, signed by President
Clinton on June 7, 1999, seeks to improve the quality of life of Asian
Americans and Pacific Islanders through increased participation in Federal
programs where they may be underserved. The last Executive Order regarding this
population was the Executive Order, which sent 120,000 Japanese Americans to
internment camps during World War II.
President Clinton's Executive Order establishes the
White House initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islander which will
develop an integrated federal government-wide plan to address the needs of
Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The President has also appointed a 15
Member Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
