The White House

It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the White House during this holiday season.

We remember with joy the look in Chelsea's wide eyes when as a small child she would wake up on Christmas morning and with not a small amount of frenzy, rush to the tree to open her presents. When viewed through a child's eyes, the holidays are their most special. That is why we have chosen "Santa's Workshop" as this year's decorative theme to represent the hopes and dreams of the next generation.

As you make your way through each of these magnificent rooms, you will see hundreds of handmade ornaments and decorations that we hope will bring back memories, or stir in you a childlike anticipation of the season. The ornaments have been created by some of the world's most famous fashion designers from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, glass artists from across the country, and needlepoint artists from the National Needlework Association. Please take your time to look at them closely and enjoy the best of American craftsmanship and creativity.

Through a child's eyes, the holidays are a time of wonder, promise and hope. As we approach a new millennium, let them also remind us of our blessings as a nation and our ability to realize the dreams of every one of our nation's children. May you and yours have a blessed holiday season and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
