Timothy E. Punke is an International Economic Policy Advisor at the National Economic Council (NEC) at the White House. Punke has primarily focussed on issues relating to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and China's accession to the WTO. He also works as part of the White House interagency “War Room” effort to pass permanent Normal Trade Relations for China. Prior to joining the NEC in 1999, he was an Associate at Dewey Ballantine LLP (1997-1999), where he worked in the international trade and legislative groups. He was also a law clerk to Circuit Judge Sidney Thomas, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (1996-1997). Punke holds a B.A. from Cornell University and a J.D. from Cornell Law School, where he was an editor of the Cornell Law Review. He is a native of Torrington, Wyoming.
