The Inter-American Affairs Office advises and assists the President and the 
National Security Advisor on all aspects of U.S. foreign policy with 
respect to issues pertaining to Latin America and the Caribbean.  
The Summit of the Americas in Miami, December 1994, marked the beginning of a 
new era of hemispheric cooperation and a deep commitment to strengthening 
democracy and good governance, achieving economic integration, and promoting 
sustainable development.   Inter-American Affairs advises and assists the 
President as he promotes the summit initiatives and the implementation 
process.
