The Office advises and assists the President and National Security Advisor on all aspects of U.S. foreign policy with respect to Sub-Saharan Africa's economy, politics and security concerns.

The United States wishes to establish a long-term partnership with Africa, and the office advises and assists the President in carrying out his policy of promoting democracy, good governance, trade and investment, and sustainable development in Africa and to resolve regional conflicts.
