The concerns of sustainable development--land use, ecosystems,
transportation, public safety, affordable housing--spread beyond the
arbitrary lines of political jurisdiction. The mission of the
Metropolitan and Rural Strategies Task Force was to encourage and support
local and regional collaboration among Federal, State, and local
government agencies; public interest and community groups; and businesses
to advance sustainable development in metropolitan and rural communities.
