Background

Established in 1947, the Phoenix Indian Center is a multi-faceted social service organization in the greater Phoenix and Maricopa County area. The center provides employment training, education and support services to a predominantly American Indian population.

Program Operations

Working with several community-based organizations, the Phoenix Indian Center offers a variety of programs ranging from case management and senior citizen services to adult education and family literacy. Each client is assigned an employment counselor to help them develop an action plan toward economic independence. Traditional classroom training, work experience and community service projects are part of the course curriculum. The Phoenix Indian Center emphasizes course curriculum and work experience as a means to provide their clients with both the practical and educational background to find employment.

Outcomes and Significant Accomplishments

Employment and training services are a high priority. These programs are the cornerstone to enhance the economic success of clients. The Phoenix Indian Center has positively impacted several hundred lives throughout its existence.
