Cell phone as a representation of the ubiquity of phone service
"As we end the 20th Century, the digital wireless phone is a powerful symbol of the communications revolution that will only pick up momentum in the 21st Century. It's also a symbolic bridge with America's last hundred years. One of the great American social accomplishments of this century was the provision of reliable, affordable telephone service to virtually every household. Today's wireless phones represent the ubiquity of phone service. As technology rapidly expands the speed of wireless data connections, these pocket-sized digital phones will very likely replace personal computers as the favored Internet access device in the 21st Century."
